Summer work wear

By Monique Chantelle

Now that Memorial weekend has passed and hurricane season has begun the heat is upon us. Our South Florida summers make it very hard to dress for work. You want to feel fresh and cool but need to look professional. How can you pull this off? I’ll tell you. Depending where you work some of these suggestions may be appropriate and some of them may not.

Start wearing skirts if you are comfortable with your legs, pencil skirts are always great as well as full skirts. If you are not comfortable showing off your legs try a maxi skirt you still get the air flow and added bonus if you tailor it correctly it will make you appear taller. Skirts not your thing, that’s fine incorporate linen pants or silk pants to office your look.  For tops camisoles are great; as long as you bring a cardigan or light weight jacket to cover up your arms. It may be hot outside but we all know it’s freezing inside.

What about the shoes??? This is where it gets tricky. Some offices will allow you to wear open toe shoes which in South Florida that would probably account for most of your shoe collection. If your office is ok with open toe shoes peep toe heels, wedges, or platforms are nice. Never ever wear flip flops to work. Should you choose the open toe option please make sure you have a neat pedicure. Your office has no open toe shoe policy no problem. You have the classic option of the pump which you could try in summer colors or sling backs are great too. With all the rain we get mostly in the afternoons might I suggest keeping some rain boots handy? You don’t want to ruin your nice shoes.

Finish off you look with a structured bag in light colors to compliment your summer work look and some fun jewelry. Don’t forget your sunglasses.
