Heritage Fest 2023 – free, all-ages celebration features February 4!

The Adrienne Arsht Center for the Performing Arts of Miami-Dade County (@arshtcenter) is pleased to announce the return of HERITAGE FEST to the Arsht Center’s outdoor Thomson Plaza for the Arts for its fourth consecutive year. HERITAGE FEST is a full day of free family fun celebrating Black heritage and excellence across South Florida.

The 2023 festival features an afro-theory dance workshop led by Show Stopper Dance Studio’s Kerine Jean-Pierre (@lerougepierre), a Free Gospel Sundays pop-up performance by Rev. Melvin Dawson & the Genesis Fellowship Delegation (@theofficialgfd) and South Florida pop/R&B singer and X-Factor alum Victoria Blue (@victoria_blue). DJ Nickymix (@nickymix) will be this year’s MC and resident DJ for the day.

HERITAGE FEST will take place outdoors with some indoor activities.

HERITAGE FEST is presented with generous support by Bank of America.

HERITAGE FEST is part of The Heritage Project, which was created with a commitment to promote social equality and amplify Black voices. The Arsht Center celebrates Black artists throughout our community through The Heritage Project’s salon series, annual festival and many other special events throughout the season.

This year’s Black History Month theme is Black Resistance and recognizes the strength and perseverance of the African diaspora and their resistance to historic and ongoing oppression in all forms. These resistance strategies have served as inspiration to many modern American social movements, including LGBTQ+ equality and women’s rights.

HERITAGE FEST is one of the 10 ongoing Arsht Center programs committed to community engagement and deepening the experience of the performing arts for all Miami-Dade County residents. Having served more than 105,000 people throughout its 16-year history, the programs broaden community participation and open the sights, sounds and possibilities of the world through the performing arts. New programs for the 22-23 season include: Broadway on Biscayne, a series of pre-and post- performance experiences giving audiences a closer look at the shows, and Club Broadway which brings together a cohort of teen Broadway enthusiasts for shows and workshops. Existing programs include: Free Gospel Sundays, featuring Miami’s best gospel artists and nationally renowned gospel headliners; Family Fest, a series of free performances featuring the world’s leading family-friendly artists; AileyCamp Miami, a full-scholarship, six-week summer dance camp which uses dance as a vehicle for the personal development of young people; CommuniTea Dance, an annual celebration honoring Miami’s LGBTQ+ community; Knight Masterworks Classical Conversations, a series of free lectures which give the audience insight into the musicians, composers and history of music presented in our Knight Masterworks Classical Music series; Accessing the Arts Residencies, art workshops for children and adults with disabilities; and Arsht on the Road, a series of free pop-up performances that bring the arts into Miami-Dade County’s diverse neighborhoods.
