(Read this in English below) Hay evidencia que los mercados y la economía de Estados Unidos no están escuchando el ruido sobre la política fiscal que está emanando de Washington. La creación por el sector privado de 236,000 nuevos empleos en febrero y la consecuente caída en la tasa de desempleo a 7,7 por ciento, desde 7,9 por ciento en enero, indican que la recuperación económica estadounidense está ganando tracción.
En febrero, casi todos los sectores de actividad económica, con la notable excepción del gobierno, crearon nuevos empleos. Incluso en la construcción, el sector mas golpeado por la recesión, fue vigorosa la creación de empleo, con 48,000 nuevos puestos de trabajo, indicando también una reactivación en el mercado de la vivienda.
El hecho positivo es que el promedio de creación de empleos ha superado 200,000 durante los últimos cuatro meses. Sin embargo, este también es el tercer año consecutivo de vigorosa creación d empleo durante la primera mitad del año. La preocupación es que en los dos años anteriores esto fue seguido de una desaceleración, durante la segunda mitad de ambos años, indicando que le faltaba suficiente vigor a la recuperación.
Peor aún, este año las señales de Washington en política fiscal apuntan hacia una mayor austeridad, lo cual, como lo dijo el Presidente de la Reserva Federal Ben Bernanke, puede generar vientos en contra de la reactivación económica.

There is evidence that the markets and the US economy are not listening to the fiscal policy noise emanating from Washington. The creation by the private sector of 236,000 new jobs in February and the consequent fall in the unemployment rate to 7.7 percent, from 7.9 percent in January, indicate that the US economic recovery is gaining traction. Also ignoring the impasse in Washington, last week, the Dow Jones industrial average reached its fourth nominal record in a week, closing at more than 14,000 last Friday.
In February, almost all sectors of economic activity, with the notable exception of the government, created new jobs. Even in construction, the weakest performer since the recession, job creation was vigorous, at 48,000 new jobs, also indicating a reactivation of the housing market.
The positive fact is that average job creation has reached more than 200,000 for the last four months. However, this is also the third consecutive year of vigorous job creation during the first half of the year. The concern is that in the previous two years this was followed by a slowdown during the second half of both years, indicating that the recovery lacked enough strength.
Worse still, this year signals from Washington on fiscal policy point toward more austerity, which, as described by Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke, can generate headwinds against the economic recovery.
