Palm Beach Symphony brings another Dale A. McNulty Children’s Concert Series to the stage with “Cinderella and the Orchestra” on Saturday, October 26 at 3 p.m. in the Eissey Campus Theater on the Palm Beach State College campus, 11051 Campus Drive in Palm Beach Gardens. Palm Beach Symphony, under the baton of Music Director Gerard Schwarz, brings to life a fresh take on this much-loved tale set to the music of Ottorino Respighi’s “Gli uccelli” (The Birds) with an enchanting original story, script and narration by his wife, musician and award-winning author Jody Schwarz. The performance is visually enhanced by ten original art illustrations created by the talented visual artist Renata Rodrigues, framing the stage and enriching the experience. In this performance, the audience meets Ella, a talented musician who secretly practices the flute in the toolshed away from her stepmother and stepsisters. Her story, with music by Italian composer Ottorino Respighi, comes with a musical twist. “It brings me great joy to bring music to children,” said Jody Schwarz. “Cinderella is a wonderful fairytale that is beloved by many all over the world and told so many ways. This version is a magical, musical fairytale where the prince is the orchestra conductor, and Ella, wearing a mask to hide her identity, attends the masquerade ball to audition for the chance to join the palace’s orchestra. That is where Ella shines.” Maestro Schwarz and Palm Beach Symphony also shine in adapting Respighi’s “Gli uccelli” (The Birds), originally composed in 1928 and based on music from the 17th and 18th centuries, to Ella’s modern day story. “I am proud of Palm Beach Symphony for presenting ‘Cinderella and the Orchestra,’” said Maestro Schwarz. “This uplifting story is perfect for the whole family, and a great addition to the season.” Tickets to the performance are $20 with a $10 student ticket. “Cinderella and the Orchestra” is a family-friendly concert suitable for audiences of all ages. Emergent Order Foundation is tackling one of the most divisive issues of the 2024 election to kick off Radical Discourse, an innovative video series designed to foster civic engagement and informed debate through the medium of music videos.

This groundbreaking series aims to make complex philosophical ideas accessible to educators, students, and the general public, encouraging a deeper understanding and discussion of today’s critical issues.

The debut video, entitled BATTLE OF THE BORDERS, features lyrical reimagining of the leading policy thinkers on the topic, from Harvard Prof. George Borjas, George Mason University Prof. Bryan Caplan, among others.

“Trust in our media and educational institutions has collapsed and one of the justifiable reasons why is the attack on free speech and open discourse online and in the classroom. Combine that with online echo chambers and we are losing the ability to understand each other, especially if we disagree. Radical Discourse is our best effort to re-open people’s minds and hearts with rigor and rhyme.” Emergent Order Foundation founder and CEO John Papola said. “It’s not about being objective. No one is. But if you don’t truly understand the other side, you don’t really understand your position either.”

Radical Discourse is the brainchild of Papola, a former television executive who pioneered the concept with a series of viral rap battles between economists John Maynard Keynes and Friedrich Hayek, in collaboration with economist Russ Roberts.

The videos have permeated economics classrooms worldwide and impacted countless students, including former Emergent Order intern-turned-producer, Jessi Bennett, who Papola tapped to lead the charge in this new endeavor. “Emergent Order’s strength in cutting through divisive noise is exactly what people across all ideologies need,” Bennett said.

The series reimagines how philosophical concepts and societal issues are conveyed, blending:

Educational Content: Detailed breakdowns of philosophical theories, political ideologies, and cultural debates with input from top scholars.

Music Videos: Utilizing the engaging format of music videos to encapsulate these dense ideas into memorable, visually rich narratives.

Interactive Elements: Viewers are encouraged to engage with each video through discussion prompts, further reading suggestions, and online forums, facilitating a community of learning and discourse. Designed for integration into educational curriculums, providing teachers with an innovative tool to spark classroom discussions and personal reflection.
