Whether it be in a tent or on ice, Cirque du Soleil never disappoints.

We were invited to attend the press event for the new show “Crystal” and like others from the company, it exceeded our expectations.

According to the company, Cirque du Soleil’s CRYSTAL, explores the artistic limits of ice for the first time in its 34-year history. This unique production pushes boundaries of performance by combining stunning skating and acrobatic feats that defy the imagination.

In CRYSTAL, gymnasts and skaters perform acrobatics on the ice and in the air, seamlessly combining multiple disciplines for a world class audience experience. Synchronized skating, freestyles figures, and extreme skating are featured alongside traditional circus disciplines such as swinging trapeze, aerial traps and hand to hand.

To me, the new tour of Cirque du Soleil Crystal takes you on a magical journey of a young girl who creates and dreams. From the skating to the acrobatics, Crystal made you not want to blink or else you’d miss a moment.

It was an amazing experience to witness the beauty of Cirque du Soleil on ice. The story line was unique and one I could’ve never thought of but that’s what made it so intriguing. For some it may be hard to follow but it wasn’t hard to see the precision and emotion done by the performers.

There were many moments where we laughed and moments that had us on the edge of our seat because of the incredible stunts that were done.

Each character portrayed themselves so beautifully and although it was cold, it warmed my heart to see such chemistry among each actor. No one wanted it to end.

Overall, Cirque du Soleil Crystal is not one you want to miss. Every time the show ends, I leave wanting to be part of the circus, so where do I sign up?

CRYSTAL will perform in Sunrise Arena for 15 performances only, Wednesday, July 18 through Sunday, July 29, 2018. You can buy tickets here: https://www.cirquedusoleil.com/crystal

STORYLINE AND THEME

Crystal is a misfit with her head in the clouds, a dreamer looking for something more in her life. One day, feeling misunderstood and out of sync with the world, she ventures out on a frozen pond and falls through the ice. In this underwater world of her own imagination, she has a vision: she sees a reflection of herself her alter ego that guides her, showing her a distorted version of her life. Her Reflection tries to wake her up to her own genius and creativity. Through her writing, Crystal releases the potential of her hidden talent and transforms the world around her with stroke of her pen. Having summoned the strength to face reality, Crystal ultimately breaks through the ice, stronger than ever.

The show Crystal is about looking at things from fresh angles, peeking through the veneer of everyday life, reframing one’s daily reality to see what one might have missed. Sometimes the only way to appreciate things is to look at them sideways. Discovering one’s individuality and uniqueness requires venturing out on thin ice.
