An eclectic musical evening – Italy, Cuba, Spain, and more! The film music of legendary Nino Rota (movies of Federico Fellini, Franco Zeffirelli, and Academy Award winner for his score of The Godfather, will be a featured live US premiere, at the Symphony’s special event in honor of Hispanic & Italian Heritage Month, conducted by Nino Lepore of the National Symphony in Bari, Italy. Completing the Italian celebration, is Italian pianist Sergio Salani & tenor, Carlos de Antonis.
Cuban powerhouse pianist, Jorge Luis Prats, joins Maestro Brooks-Bruzzese for the balance of the concert, to feature the music of Cuban composer Ernesto Lecuona and more!
Now a current Miami resident, Jorge Luis Prats was born in Camagüey, Cuba. His teachers in Cuba included such illustrious figures as Cesar Perez Sentenar, Barbara Dìaz Alea, Margot Rojas and Alfredo Diez. Upon graduation from the National Arts College he was awarded a scholarship to the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow where he studied under Rudolf Kerer. He continued his higher piano education at the Paris Conservatory and at the Hochschule für Musik und Künstler in Vienna with Paul Badura Skoda and later with Magda Tagliaferro in Paris, also receiving master classes from Witold Malcuzcynski in Warsaw.
Regularly invited as professor by the respected institutions such as National University of Columbia in Bogota, National School of the Arts in Havana, the Arts Centre in Mexico, the Conservatory of Cordoba in Spain and Royal Conservatory in Toronto, he was also the Artistic Director of National Orchestra of Cuba from 1985 to 2002.
