As temperatures drop amid cold snaps throughout the state, Florida Power & Light Company (FPL) debuts a revamped, free resource to help families be energy efficient this winter. The FPL House of Savings Winter Edition is an innovative, interactive tool that uses augmented reality to help customers learn how to save on their energy bill all winter long. Customers can enter the House of Savings at www.FPL.com/TakeControl.
In the FPL House of Savings Winter Edition, participants move through a virtual home and answer energy-related questions by interacting with different appliances in three rooms: the kitchen, office and laundry room. Throughout the experience, participants will learn which appliances have the biggest impact on their bill throughout the colder months and see how small, simple changes can really add up to savings. Participants will need a mobile phone or tablet with a camera to participate.
Through this free resource, customers will learn how to apply better energy-saving habits throughout their own home year-round. If they answer all the questions correctly, customers will learn how to save up to $17 on their monthly energy bill.
Unique to the winter season, the revamped tool features energy tips on proper ceiling insulation, perfecting your home’s air flow, taking advantage of the sun’s natural heat and more. For example, participants learn that, in the cooler months, they could pay 10% more in heating costs for every degree above 68 that they set their thermostat.
The House of Savings also features FPL’s Energy Manager, an all-in-one tool that allows customers to view the what, where and why of their home’s energy use. To learn more about the Energy Manager and experience the FPL House of Savings Winter Edition, please visit www.FPL.com/TakeControl.
