Beautiful art reception at the Coral Springs Museum of Art

Join the Coral Springs Museum of Art for an artist reception featuring environmental painter Elizabeth Thompson, abstract artist Sally Cooper, and Miami-based fine artist Alvaro Labañino, while enjoying light refreshments and hors d’oeuvres. Labañino and Thompson’s exhibits will be on display through Saturday, March 2, 2019 and Cooper’s exhibit will be on display through Saturday, December 29, 2018.

Elizabeth Thompson: “Elizabeth Thompson”

Thompson went to Paris, France in 1976 after graduating college for a Fellowship, where she met her future husband and grew her art. Thompson’s work has always been inspired by “the power of space”- painting beaches, the Paris architecture and Florida landscapes. After inspiration from multiple landscapes, such as the Everglades and her trip to Africa, Thompson began to incorporate “a multitude of local, natural images, illustrating the cyclical relationship between life and death.” Thompson’s art has always centered on the careful observation of nature, poetic isolation and the juxtaposition of handmade work in a machine-made world.

Sally Cooper: “Journey to Abstraction”

Abstract artist Sally Cooper has been painting her entire life, but in the mid-nineties Cooper moved from “detailed representational work” towards the abstract. By 2000, Cooper’s artistic style evolved into explosions of color, markings and movement. Cooper’s surface is “built, destroyed and erased again” with vigorous brush strokes to create a subtle and sensitive history of what has been “until from chaos, a beautiful painting is created.”

Alvaro Labañino – “Echoes of Silence”

Alvaro Labañino, born in Miami, Florida from working-class immigrant parents, was the first in his family to graduate from Miami-Dade college and then continue to obtain his Bachelor of Fine Arts degree at Florida International University. Miami-based fine artist Labañino creates paintings that function as thresholds to his mind, portraying a world of thoughts, life experiences, dreams, nightmares and fears, materializing in the form of personal objects, domestic spaces and landscapes. Labañino’s paintings are systematically structured, with images segmented into flat contour colors, interacting at various intensities and temperatures to depict his intended disposition. Labañino’s inspiration thrives from the extensive history of art, the School of London, the German Expressionists and his hometown of Miami, Fl.
