Hispanic Unity of Florida (HUF), a 42-year-old Hollywood-based nonprofit organization, is excited to announce the expansion of our Comprando Rico y Sano program starting Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Gulfstream Early Learning Center in Hallandale, Florida, located at 120 SW
4th Avenue Hallandale Beach, FL 33009, from 9AM until 1PM, featuring a cooking demonstration (from 9am to 10am), nutritional workshop, raffles, and prizes.
Thanks to the generosity of the Citi Foundation, HUF was among 50 organizations granted a total of $25 million to pilot or expand catalytic solutions to improve food security globally.
Comprando Rico y Sano is a program that seeks to reduce hunger, reduce food
insecurity, and instill healthy shopping and eating habits through nutrition education and
enrollment assistance into anti-hunger programs such as the United States Department
of Agriculture's Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and others. HUF is
strongly committed to addressing food insecurity and strengthen the physical and
financial health of low-income families and communities, alleviating the immediate
nutritional needs of low-to-moderate income individual and families, as well as working
with clients to help them to become more resilient and financially stable.
“Specifically for this innovation, HUF will focus on decreasing food insecurities in
underserved communities by fostering a foundation of nutritious lifestyle choices that
will empower individuals to make informed decisions about their diet, improve overall
health outcomes, and create sustainable solutions that address long-term food security
challenges.”, said Felipe Pinzon, HUF’s President and CEO.
