This week, a national collaboration between State Farm and the Arbor Day Foundation comes to Sunrise in the form of a tree giveaway event.
A significant portion of the city’s tree canopy has been lost over the last decade due to hurricanes, tropical storms and ongoing drought conditions. Helping restore the tree canopy will assist the community in building resilience to future severe weather threats.
State Farm is dedicated to helping communities recover. On November 5, local State Farm agents will gather alongside volunteers from Community Greening to distribute 225 trees to residents on a first come, first served basis.
Earlier this year, State Farm announced a $700,000 pledge to the Arbor Day Foundation to support tree planting projects in areas impacted by natural disasters such as wildfires, hurricanes, tornadoes, and other challenges like urban heat islands.
“Trees can help make communities more resilient,” said Rasheed Merritt, State Farm Vice President of Corporate Responsibility. “State Farm is committed to helping communities recover from disasters and manage future risks, and we are proud to support local tree planting as part of this effort.”
