The City Council of Hialeah, the second largest municipality in Miami-Dade County and the sixth largest city in Florida, on Tuesday became at least the 12th government body in the state to pass a resolution expressing its opposition to pro-abortion Amendment 4.

Hialeah Councilwoman Jacqueline Garcia-Roves, who sponsored the resolution, noted that the extreme amendment would make abortion the only medical procedure in the state not to require parental consent for minors, in addition to removing any limits on late-term abortions.
“For my 16-year-old to get a piercing, I have to authorize it. For any of them to be administered Tylenol in a hospital, I have to authorize that,” she said. “This is way worse. Anything can happen to a child under anesthesia.”
Mayor Esteban Bovo commended the resolution’s sponsors for having the courage to take a stand against Amendment 4, which is being funded by Planned Parenthood, the ACLU and various Soros-backed groups.

“I do think you should use your platforms to speak to folks in our community and educate people in this community,” he told them at the meeting, adding that Amendment 4 also would require taxpayer funding of abortions.
The resolution passed unanimously.
Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida has led the way in convincing government bodies to approve resolutions opposing Amendment 4.
The Homestead City Council is the other Miami-Dade municipal board that has passed a resolution against Amendment 4. The county commissions of Sarasota, DeSoto, Jefferson, Lee, Collier, Bradford, Liberty, Okaloosa and Gilchrist, and the Trenton City Commission have also adopted resolutions opposing Amendment 4.
The day after the Hialeah City Council meeting, Bovo and members of the council held a press conference at Hialeah City Hall to discuss their opposition to both Amendments 4 and 3, which would legalize recreational use of marijuana in the state of Florida. Also attending the press conference were State Reps. Alex Rizo and Alina Garcia, Miami-Dade School Board member Danny Espino, CFC Florida Founder and Executive Director Anthony Verdugo, and others. Both amendments will appear on the statewide November ballot.
