2024 Miami Open presented by Itaú March 25 Tournament Updates

The Miami Open Wheelchair Invitational kicks off tomorrow on court 5 at 12pm – see below for a full schedule of matches. The event launched today with Miami Open Tournament Director James Blake welcoming 50-time major winner, Shingo Kunieda to the attending media as the Tournament Director of the inaugural Miami Open Wheelchair Invitational. Among the competitors are three of the top five Men’s Wheelchair Tennis players, including world No. 1 Alfie Hewitt, No.3 Gustavo Fernandez, No. 5 Gordon Reid and Shingo Kunieda himself. On the women’s side is world No.1 Diede de Groot, No. 8 and Florida resident Dana Matthewson, No. 10 Angelica Bernal, and No. 38 Maylee Phelps.

Mixed US Success

Danielle Collins and Jessica Pegula advanced to the quarterfinals, both winning in straight sets. Even with the majority of the stadium urging her on, local favorite, Coco Gauff, failed to get the better of France’s Caroline Garcia, losing in three sets while Madison Keys also came up short against 2022 Wimbledon Champion, Elena Rybakina.

 

Ben Shelton went down to Italy’s Lorenzo Musetti, while Chris Eubanks lost to world No. 5, Alexander Zverev, both in straight sets. Sebastian Korda lost a three-set battle with Hubert Hurkacz.

 

Terrific Tuesday

The entire men’s Round of 16 will be played Tuesday, with the eight winners advancing to the quarterfinals. Here’s a quick look at each of the matchups:
